Lions' center Dominic Raiola apologizes for verbal abuse towards UW band

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - After saying that winning football games was more important, Dominic Raiola changed his mind Tuesday, and apologized to the Wisconsin Badger marching band for his actions against them at Sunday's Packer game in Green Bay.

Band members said the veteran Detroit center questioned a band member's sexuality, verbally dressed down a trombone player, and yelled obscenities to a woman in the band.

After that hit the news, Raiola told a Fox Sports reporter it was all blown out of proportion, and said the team had bigger priorities -- like winning games.

In the meantime, Lions team president Tom Lewand was apologizing to UW-Madison officials -- and Raiola's coach Jim Schwartz was vowing to get to the bottom of it.

Tuesday, Raiola called his actions inappropriate -- and Lewand said he was glad the player was taking responsibility.

Raiola apologized and promised a significant donation to the band.

With that, the Lions now consider the matter closed. Raiola will not be fined or suspended by the team.
