Proposed Stevens Point development could create six story student apartment building

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- Stevens Point may soon have a new five or six floor apartment building on Division Street adjacent to the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point campus.

Mayor Andrew Halverson says this would be a perfect for the nearby businesses and for students on campus in addition to having the investment in the Division Street corridor. “It’s a very exciting project. Aesthetically, it’s going to be brick faced with balconies, a beautiful glazed tower, about six stories in terms of its height, and as I said, about six and a half to seven million (dollars invested).”

Halverson says the developer is CFF, LLC. He says discussions have been ongoing with them for a while now, and a deal has been made to acquire the Point Motel property. “We’ve been working with this developer for six to eight months on locations that would make sense. The Point Motel site is, of course, a little over forty years old and has seen its years obviously catch up to it in terms of it being a hotel property, so it’s certainly an area that we’re looking to recharge and reinvest in.”

The Mayor says the eastern side of Division Street location is good, because it eliminates the need for students to cross the busy street to get to campus facilities.

The proposed apartment building still has to be approved by committees and the full city council before construction can begin.
