MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) -- A 17-year-old boy is jailed, awaiting a court appearance after fleeing police and crashing a car into a fire hydrant.

Police say the boy is from the Arpin area, and was wanted for questioning in a shoplifting case from the Marshfield Walmart. Officers spotted him at Kwik Trip Tuesday, and pursued him to the intersection of South Maple Avenue and East Sixth Street. After striking the hydrant, the young driver fled on foot. He turned himself in several hours later.

Police have requested charged of operating while intoxicated and felony fleeing an officer. The boy is presently in the Wood County Jail.
