Concerns raised about farm bill milk pricing formula could hurt Wisconsin

WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) - Most of Wisconsin's federal lawmakers are concerned that a new package of farm programs will put America's Dairyland at a disadvantage compared to others.

A conference committee has been negotiating a new Farm Bill, mostly trying to work out wide differences in the amount of food stamp benefits to be cut.

Senate Democrat Tammy Baldwin and seven other Wisconsin lawmakers say current federal rules are setting the price of milk-for-cheese at a lower level than the milk-to-drink -- and that's hurting producers who sell mainly to cheese factories.

Baldwin says that if any changes are to be made in dairy programs, the USDA should look at all of formulas for milk pricing.
