WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - The recent controversy over religious music in the Wausau School District has apparently prompted some people to threaten the superintendent.

WSAW Television reports that Superintendent Kathleen Williams received numerous threatening telephone calls and at least one emailed threat. Some of those threats were delivered over a week ago at work, and some at home.

Administrative Assistant Cassie Peck told the television station there were over 65 phone calls about the music issues, and that two of the callers used extreme and threatening language.

The apparent threats were forwarded to the school’s attorney, but had not been given to police, the school’s human resources department, or the school board as of Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Ruder Ware law firm has been hired by the district to conduct an investigation into the music issues, and what was done or said leading up to the temporary disbanding of the Wausau West Master Singers.
