Pointers Begin World Series Play Today

GRAND CHUTE, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) The N-C-A-A Division-Three Baseball World Series begins today at Fox Cities Stadium near Appleton.

U-W Stevens Point is making its first appearance in the national finals since 2010. The Pointers will play Manchester of Indiana in today’s third game, scheduled to start at 4:30 this afternoon. Stevens Point is 39-and-9 after winning the Whitewater Regional a week ago. Manchester is 39-5-and-1, and is making its first appearance at the D-Three World Series since 2004.

The double-elimination tournament begins at 10 this morning, when Millsaps of Mississippi makes its finals’ debut against Southern Maine. Linfield of Oregon will play Ithaca in Game-Two. The day’s fourth-and-final contest will feature Webster of Missouri and Kean of New Jersey. Kean is making its third straight trip to Appleton.

The tournament is scheduled to run through Tuesday if necessary.
