The new sign format for the Wausau Metropolitan Bike Routes

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - It's National Bike to Work Week and Wausau Mayor Jim Tipple was pleased with Monday's turnout for his annual ride to work.

Despite cool temperatures, about a dozen people turned out for the bike ride from Saint Anne's School to City Hall. Tipple says it's part of an overall effort to get people people to think about how they get around. "If we can get more people using public transport and cutting down on fossil fuels, it can make this a great place to live.

The Wausau Metropolitan plan commission has already taken their own step forward by laying out bike trails around the area. Tipple says more of those signs denoting those trails will be going up over the summer. "Schofield already has them up and we're hoping to get more up as time allows."

You can get a map explaining the new trails online at http://www.bicyclewausau.org.
