Driver puts boss' truck in pond, and disappears

by

STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) -  Officers around Stevens Point spent a lot of time Thursday looking for a man who got in trouble with his boss’ truck.

Portage County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Nicki Lukas says the they received a call early Thursday morning about a pickup truck in Jordan Pond off of Highway 66. Divers and rescue teams searched the water, but found no driver. Lukas says the driver is alive and well, but is eluding police. “We know for a fact that the driver is out of the vehicle. He actually showed up at the hotel in Stevens Point where this work crew is staying, made contact with the truck’s owner, and when the truck owner confronted him about what had happened, the driver left and has not been seen since.”

The truck belongs to a roofing company from the Appleton area that is working at a Stevens Point jobsite.

Lukas says it is likely the driver was intoxicated. So far, officials have not located the man.
