MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - The UW Madison freshman class has the lowest percentage of students from Wisconsin in at least 10 years.
A university committee has told the campus Faculty Senate that the percentage of total freshmen who are from the Badger State dropped from 64-percent in 2002, to 56-percent last September.
The committee said the UW’s flagship campus now enrolls fewer in-state students than its peer schools – and it recommended that Madison officials do more to attract Wisconsin’s best-and-brightest high school grads.
Provost Paul DeLuca says it’s not as easy as it sounds.
That’s because fewer students are graduating from Wisconsin high schools.
