MARSHFIELD, WI  (WSAU)  -  Marshfield’s historic Middle School is set to undergo a summer-long remodeling project which will now include new security measures.

That’s following a vote Wednesday night by the Marshfield School Board to include new safety features into the school’s redesigned main entrance.Randell Krueger is school board vice president and says, “Unfortunately, we live in a post Sandy Hook time period where security is incredibly important.”

Ron Sturomski is the district’s Director of Building and Grounds who says security wasn’t as much of an emphasis when planning for the project began back in 201. According to Sturomski, “Security is on the forefront now.” Also at last night’s meeting, the board approved the refinancing of $8.8 million dollars in bonds which were issued back in 2006 following the passage of a building referendum. According to David DeYoung, financial advisor from Stifel Nicolaus, that refinancing will save the district just over $890,000 in financing charges over the life of the bonds.
