ST. PAUL, MN  (WSAU)  -  Just after 3:00 p.m. Thursday, St. Paul Police announced that the body found in the Mississippi River this week is that of Kira Steger Trevino.   She is the D.C Everest graduate who disappeared after working at the Mall of America February 24th.

Senior St. Paul Police Commander Brian Coyle says a citizen who works in the area at Upper River Services located the body Wednesday in an eddy, where the river current often deposits debris, just upstream from the LaFayette Freeway-Highway 52 bridge near State Street and East Fillmore Avenue, downstream from the Robert Street bridge.

Trevino has been missing since February, when she failed to report to her job at the Mall of America.

Paul Paulos is with the St. Paul Police Department.  In a press conference, he confirmed that Trevino's body is at the medical examiner's office.  They do not know where she was placed in the river.  They could not comment on any specifics about the condition of her body, or what is next for the murder case against Jeffrey Trevino.

Jeffrey Trevino has been charged with homicide, and is being held on a one million dollar cash bond.  Coyle expects Ramsey County prosecutors to amend the criminal complaint to reflect any new evidence they locate on Kira's body.  They may also amend the charges from 2nd degree homicide to 1st degree homicide.

Kira’s parents, Jay and Marcie Steger are travelling to the Twin Cities Friday to claim their daughter’s body. Memorial services have not been finalized. The Stegers are also planning to spend the weekend with the volunteers that helped search for Kira.  They are still looking for two other missing women, 24-year-old Mandy Matula and 28-year-old Danielle Jelinek.
