FAA will continue to staff air traffic controllers at Mitchel International Airport

MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ) - The FAA said Wednesday it would keep providing 24-hour air traffic control service at Milwaukee’s Mitchell International Airport.

The agency was planning to shut down the towers overnight at Mitchell and 71 other large airports, as part of the automatic federal spending cuts which took effect over two months.

Congress voted last month to exempt the airport towers from the sequester.

The FAA held a conference call with airlines and pilot organizations – and then it announced the continued service.
