TOMAHAWK, WI (WSAU) - An elderly Tomahawk man is in critical condition following a brush fire Sunday afternoon.

A DNR warden spotted the fire along County T south of Highway 8 and called for help extinguishing the blaze. When the warden moved in to investigate, he spotted the 76 year old man lying in the woods. Tomahawk firefighters arrived to put out the fire and help rescue the man, who was airlifted to Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

According to investigators, it appears the man was burning garbage when the fire got away from him and started the brush fire. The man has not been identified, but it is thought his condition may be medical and not related to the blaze.
