ROTHSCHILD, WI (WSAU) -  Shareholders and the media had an opportunity to take a close look at a large construction project Thursday.

WSAU’s Larry Lee took the tour, and says, "If you think the We Energies Biomass Cogeneration Plant in Rothschild looks big from the road, you should see it up close."

The tall building everyone notices is a 190 foot tall boiler building. That’s where wood waste will be burned to create steam for both the paper mill and the 50 megawatt electric generator that weighs 85 tons. What you can’t see while driving by are the other seven structures that are part of the plant, including a 438 foot long and 120 foot wide storage building for the fuel. Conveyor belts will move the chips from the paper mill and the storage building to the boiler.

Right now, about 425 construction workers are welding, grinding, and installing various components. It will go into service later this year.
