WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - It appears there’s some unfinished business to clear up between Marathon County and the Wausau Curling Club.
The property on Kent Street was next to the old Holtz-Krause Landfill site, and the former owners owed $17,680 in taxes on the two parcels. Now, county officials are wondering what happened and how to resolve the problem.
Corporation Counsel Scott Corbett says this matter was news to him, too, so he’s anxious to learn more about the issue at a Monday meeting. “We never took a tax deed for it because it was contaminated property. I don’t know what the Curling Club thinks is the story with respect to it, and that’s why (Treasurer) Lorraine Beyersdorff put it on the agenda so we could get it out in the open and discuss what’s going to happen to the property.”
The meeting will be held by Marathon County’s Finance and Property Committee this coming Monday at 3:00 p.m.
Corbett says it will be interesting to hear what agreements may have been made in the past. As far as the back taxes, Corbett says that might be covered by the seller, the Curling Club, or by title insurance.
