MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) - Some Marshfield residents want the proposed Library & Community Center Project downsized.
That’s according to Becky Spencer who sits on the project’s steering committee. Spencer says some residents would also like the project built in several phases to meet more realistic fundraising goals.
Spencer says fundraising consultants Brakely-Briscoe recommend that fundraising goals should be adjusted from $11 million downward to $9 million. According to Spencer, “We’re going to see if we can divide the project into phases with the library to be completed first, and the renovation of the existing library into the community center follow.”
Last August, the city’s Common Council pledged $3 million for the project, provided that another $3-to-8-million be raised through private donations and grants. The large number of other projects vying for fundraising dollars were cited as the main reason for scaling-back the fundraising goals; and if fundraising is successful, the project could still break ground by 2014.
