Damage in Marshfield food ingredient plant fire less than initial estimate

by

MARSHFIELD, WI (WTAQ) - A weekend fire at a food ingredient plant in Marshfield did not cause as much damage as first reported.

Deputy Fire Chief Roy Dolens said the blaze caused around $110,000 in total damage. The original damage figure was $1 million in processed food products in the blaze early Sunday at Quality Ingredients just east of Marshfield’s downtown area.

Dolens said the fire was confined to an interior drying unit. He said a preliminary investigation revealed that the blaze may have been caused by mechanical equipment that’s used to convert raw milk into a powder.

Officials said the fire would have been more serious if it wasn’t for panels that released pressure.

No one was injured. Firefighters were on the scene for about six hours.
