WAUWATOSA, WI (WTAQ0 - An Iraq War veteran now claims he was insane when he allegedly shot his wife to death while she was working as a Wauwatosa police officer last Christmas Eve.

30-year-old Ben Sebena changed his plea Friday from innocent to innocent-by-insanity.

He’s accused of shooting 30-year-old Jennifer Sebena, as she walked out of a break room at Wauwatosa’s downtown fire station around 4:30 in the morning last December 24th.

Milwaukee County Circuit Judge David Borowski ordered a mental exam, and he’ll decide in late April whether the insanity plea will stand.

Sebena faces life in prison on a charge of first-degree intentional homicide.

If he’s found guilty and insane, he could go to a mental health facility instead of prison.

Police quoted Sebena as saying he was jealous of his wife being around other men – but investigators never disclosed a motive for the killing.
