Packers look to re-sign Shields

GREEN BAY (WSAU-WRN)  The agent for Green Bay Packers cornerback Sam Shields, Drew Rosenhaus, was meeting with Packers yesterday, trying to get a deal done in time for Shields to participate in the team’s mandatory minicamp, which starts this week.

The story was first reported by Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press Gazette.

Shields is a restricted free agent and was tendered at the second round rate. That means if he plays this season for the tender, he would make $2.02-million.

Shields played in 12 games last season, including playoffs and was the team’s top defensive corner, but no other teams signed Shields to an offer sheet which means the Packers hold negotiating rights with him.

Shields has not participated in the Packers’ offseason program because he is not under contract.
