STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) - McDill Pond has been refilled, first with water and now with fish. The Lake Association raised money and worked with the Department of Natural Resources and local fish farm operator Fritz Gollon to arrange for restocking the fish.
Lake Association member John Jones says they are glad to have the pond filled up again, and Friday’s restocking is a good first step to getting McDill Pond back to normal. “We’re restocking 47-hundred perch and 47-hundred bluegills. In the fall, we’ll be doing 9-thousand fingerling bass. The DNR will be sampling this summer, and see how we’re doing from a fishery standpoint. Then, we’ll look at doing more restocking in 2014, along with in 2014, we’ll be stocking about 600 to 1-thousand northerns.”
Jones says the association and area residents are glad the dam is fixed so they can get McDill Pond back to normal.
The Lake Association is grateful for the donations to help restock the pond, including one from the 12 Apostles Musky Club. More restocking is planned late this fall and again next spring after they raise more money.
