NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (WSAU) - The former Thorp track coach accused of having sexual relations with a student has reached a plea deal.

44-year-old Scott Bergman pled no contest Tuesday to sexual assault of a student by school staff and bail jumping. As part of the plea deal, four charges including possessing child pornography and having sex with a minor were dismissed, but will be read in at sentencing. Bergman’s cellphone had nude and partially nude pictures of the then-17-year-old female student. He remains in jail on a 20-thousand dollar bond. Sentencing has been set for September 17th.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim’s parents knew of the relationship with Bergman, and didn’t want to see him prosecuted. There was discussion of Bergman and the victim getting married to avoid these charges.
