GAB: Wisconsin municipal clerks violated elex laws thousands of times

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsin’s municipal clerks violated federal election laws 10,000 times in the past three years, by not making polling places as accessible and private as the law requires.

The state Government Accountability Board made unannounced inspections at over 1,600 voting places statewide over the past 16 elections. Each place committed an average of 6.5 violations of the Help America Vote Act, and-or the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Board director Kevin Kennedy said a-third of the violations had prevented disabled voters from entering the polls, and casting ballots with nobody looking.

Kennedy said Wisconsin has, “quite a ways to go to ensure everyone with a disability is able to vote privately and independently.”
