Volunteers and businessman put out 10,000 American flags for the holiday

MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) -- The return of an Independence Day tradition is keeping the streets of Marshfield Red, White, and Blue for the Fourth of July again this year. Residents once again found small American Flags in every yard in the city, and organizer Phil Hiller from Hillers True Value Hardware says, “It’s been a good thing, a fun thing, for us to do, to honor the servicemen and women, and to remember the true meaning of Independence Day.” Hiller says the patriotic tradition is back for the ninth time in the City of Marshfield, and even in many outlying areas thank to the help of a virtual army of volunteers. A 4”x6” printed card is attached to every flag thanking God for our freedom and for the men and women who fight to keep us free.

Overall, more than ten thousand flags are on display due to the efforts of Hiller and the hundreds of volunteers.
