WASHINGTON DC (LEARFIELD-WSAU)Jean Segura and Carlos Gomez are expected to return to the starting lineup tonight, when the Milwaukee Brewers play the Nationals in Washington. Manager Ron Roenicke says Segura has been nursing a sore right thumb, and last night was his first off-day since June second. Gomez is still healing his sore left shoulder, which he crashed into a centerfield wall while making a circus catch last month. He played the final two innings as a defensive safeguard in last night’s 4-nothing win over the Nationals.
Segura has a chance to be the National League’s starting shortstop in the July 16th All-Star Game. Gomez has been mentioned as a possible backup for the N-L squad. Bovada-Dot-Com of Las Vegas says Segura has a 10-to-1 chance of winning the National League M-V-P award for the season – and Gomez has a 12-to-1 shot. Paul Goldschmidt of Arizona is the current favorite at 4-to-1.
The Brewers and Nationals are tied at a game-apiece in their four-game series. Right-hander Kyle Losch starts for the Crew tonight against Nationals’ left-hander Ross Detwiler.
The game will start an hour earlier than normal at 5:05, to accommodate folks attending the July third fireworks shows.
