Kraft fined for Oscar Mayer underweight packages

MADISON, WI (WSAU) -  If that Oscar Mayer ham seems a little light, it could be. Wisconsin’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection has just fined Oscar Mayer’s parent company Kraft Foods Group for selling short-weighted packages.

Kraft will pay just under 14 thousand dollars and they must take corrective actions, which include installation of an assembly line weight checking system at all production sites which will cost them about 10 million dollars and take nearly five years to complete. The Davenport Iowa plant will get the most renovation work. Until the changes are made, The Oscar Mayer plants will have to do net weight checks every 15 minutes.

Inspectors found short-weight packages at retail stores in seven Wisconsin cities, including Plover and Wisconsin Rapids.
