Wausau police officer receives Life Saving Award

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - A Wausau police officer has received the department's Life Saving Award for his work in saving an elderly man suffering a heart attack.

After Wausau fire got a call for an elderly man suffering a heart attack, officer Anthony Reince responded and arrived before the ambulances. "Right before I arrived, they said he was pulseless and not breathing, so I moved him into a hallway and provided CPR while paramedics arrived."

Chief Jeff Hardel and the fire department say Reince's efforts saved the man's life. At Wausau city council this week, Hardel said that his officers take extraordinary measures regularly. A lot of officers do jump the EMT calls, and if they can arrive faster, they'll take action. We're very fortunate that Anthony is a paramedic."

Reince was humble about receiving the award. "I am a CPR instructor as well as a Paramedic at Aspirus. It means a lot. It's nice to see the community support our efforts, but it's what we do everyday."
