CHIPPEWA COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - The state DNR is taking public comments on a utility’s request to re-build part of a power line near a state trail in Chippewa County.

Xcel Energy wants to re-construct 8 miles of an electric transmission line between Lake Wissota and Jim Falls. All but two miles of the line run along the Old Abe State Trail – and the utility would build taller poles, and put them 15 feet closer to the recreational paths.

Xcel Energy has been negotiating for an easement, and the DNR says it does not expect any major environmental impact.

The DNR is taking written and e-mailed comments on the project through February 12th.
