Badgers Host Spartans Tonight

MADISON, WI (WSAU) The Wisconsin men’s basketball team might be without another key back-up tonight when it hosts 13th-ranked Michigan State.

The Badgers have already lost sophomore forward Frank Kaminsky, who got poked in the eye at Indiana last week. Now comes word that guard George Marshall could miss tonight’s contest due to illness. The redshirt freshman did not practice yesterday. Marshall averages about five points and one-and-a-half assists in 19 minutes a game, in relief of starting point guard Traevon Jackson.

Jackson averages 26 minutes a night – and he might be called upon more this evening, along with seldom-used Zak Showalter. Jackson’s trying to shake off a poor shooting performance in Saturday night’s four-point Badger loss at Iowa, in which he only made 1-of-10 from the floor. Wisconsin is 4-and-1 in the Big Ten, with a 13-and-5 overall record.

They’ll face a surging Michigan State team that’s won five straight games, and has beaten the Badgers seven consecutive times in Madison. The Spartans are coming off a three-point win over then 11th-ranked Ohio State Saturday. Keith Appling scored six points in the final 41 seconds.

After the Badgers’ upset at Indiana, Wisconsin came to within two places of the Top-25 this week in both the A-P and the coaches’ polls. You can hear the game on WSAU at 5PM
