HUDSON, WI (WSAU) - The former River Falls man accused of murdering his three young daughters has pled not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Aaron Schaffhausen made that plea in St. Croix County court Wednesday.

Investigators say Schaffhausen slit the throats of 11-year-old Amara, 8-year-old Sophie and 5-year-old Cecilia last July while he was visiting them at his ex-wife’s home. They believe he did this to hurt his ex.

Attorney John Kucinski entered the mental disease based pleas. A trial is scheduled to begin in April.
