FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - A firefighter in Fond du Lac is facing termination when he appears before the city's Police and Fire Commission next week.
Edgar Ramirez-Tellez is accused of using city resources while at work to open a new restaurant.
FOX 11 reports that Fire Chief Peter O'Leary says he's asking the commission to fire Ramirez-Tellez. O'Leary says he used city resources while on duty to research opening his restaurant, Casa Del Tequila. Ramirez-Tellez is currently on paid administrative leave.
O'Leary adds Ramirez-Tellez called in sick back on October 11, but was later found working at his restaurant the same day.
According to the charges filed with the commission, Ramirez-Tellez used a copy machine at the fire department as well as computers to research business plans and other elements of his restaurant while on duty on several occasions.
Ramirez-Tellez was first confronted about the actions at a meeting with fire department and city staff on Sept. 5. According to the charges, Ramirez-Tellez was told his work with the department must take priority over his outside employment. The charges also state, Ramirez-Tellez was told "it is not acceptable to run his restaurant out of the fire house."
The Police and Fire Commission will meet to act on O'Leary's request to fire Ramirez-Tellez at a closed door hearing on Tuesday.
