WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -  It’s just too warm. That’s what snowmobilers are saying, anyway. Marathon County snowmobile trails are closed as of 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning after only one weekend of fair to poor riding conditions. Wood County only kept trails open for the weekend, and closed them right away as well.

The mild winter has lead to sparse snow cover, thinner-than-usual ice, and very un-Wisconsin like conditions. Several vehicles have gone through ice this year as lakes are only about half as thick with ice as usual.
