MILLADORE, Wis. (WSAU) - The DNR is now taking comment on the forestry management of the Mead and McMillan wildlife areas.
Area wildlife supervisor Brian Phillips says the plan dictates how the DNR allows forest harvesting. "In the practical sense, it involves the logging of areas using certain techniques to keep it sustainable." the current interim plans in place for the areas do include a steady stream of logs for the timber industry.
Phillips says plans for the areas include both selective harvest for hardwood areas, and clear-cutting for softwood and new-growth regions. "In the short term, there'll be areas that will be cut over, but in a year you'll see the regeneration of new trees coming in."
The new plans are preliminary only, and a new master plan document will be drafted at a later date. Comments for the interim plans will be taken through January 24th. You can find the plans online at the DNR's Website - dnr.wi.gov - by typing the keyword IFMP in the search box.
