WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - The Wausau Curling Club’s new rink is up and running, and the dedication ceremonies take place today.
Cory Sandquist is the Curling Club President. He says the public is welcome to join them for the cornerstone celebration and ceremonial first curling stone. “We’ll be unveiling our cornerstone at the new facility down at 1920 Curling Way. It’s been a long, long process of building the facility and we’re going to be commemorating that cornerstone today at 3:30 p.m. After that cornerstone dedication, we’ll be having the throwing of our first commemorative curling stone. That will be done by George Wolf, who was a past President of the Wausau Curling Club and a contributor to this project.”
The new facility has been in the planning and fundraising stages for a decade, and is already active with league play and preparation for upcoming tournaments. One such tournament is this weekend. “This coming Friday, we will have our High School TG Bonspiel, which will have approximately forty teams from around Wisconsin coming down to curl, and this is actually the nation’s largest high school bonspiel tournament.”
The public is welcome to join the ceremonies, which start at 3:30 this afternoon. Curling Way is just off the east end of Kent Street in Wausau.
