Woman killed in Mississippi River bridge crash identified

by

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, WI (WTAQ) - A woman killed in a head-on crash on a Mississippi River bridge was identified Monday morning at 73-year-old Lorraine Siegenthaler of McGregor Iowa.

Four other people were injured in the crash, which occurred late Sunday afternoon on the Highway 18 Marquette-Joliet Bridge between Prairie du Chien and Iowa.

The State Patrol said Siegenthaler’s car was going west into Wisconsin when her car crossed the center line and hit a van head-on.

The van driver – a 43-year-old Prairie du Chien woman – was flown to a La Crosse hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her condition was not immediately disclosed.

Three other people in the van – a Stueben woman and two children – suffered minor injuries, and were treated at a Prairie du Chien hospital.

The bridge was closed for several hours for cleanup and investigation. Authorities said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
