Report: Wisconsin's job growth slowed in 2012 from June to September


MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - A new report indicates that Wisconsin’s job growth slowed down at a point during last year’s recovery.

State officials said Friday that Wisconsin’s private employers added almost 20,500 new jobs during the year ending last September. That’s about 15,000 jobs fewer than for the year ending last June – just three months earlier.

The state released the September figure Friday, from data sent to Washington for a quarterly federal report that won’t come out until later this year.

The state’s early release does not compare Wisconsin’s job gains to those of other states. That comparison is included in the later report sent out by the U.S. Labor Department.

The last federal report showed that Wisconsin had the 9th-lowest job gains among the 50 states for the year ending last June.

The data is considered the most accurate job information put out by the Labor Department – even though it’s much less timely than the monthly jobless figures which are based on much smaller employer samples.
