STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) - UW-Stevens Point wrestling head coach Johnny Johnson was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Mertz Mortorelli Coach of the Year Sunday.
The Pointers are 14-9 overall and ranked No. 9 in the Brute National Wrestling NCAA Division III poll.“To me, the award is more of a reflection of the guys on the team and their leadership,” said Johnson, who is in his 14th season as head coach of the Pointers. “It's also a reflection of our assistant coaches.”Four Pointers are currently ranked nationally in their respective weight classes under Johnson's lead.Jordan Kust (Clintonville, WI/Shawano) is ranked No. 6 at 141 pounds and Jordan Schulte (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee) is ranked No. 7 at 165 poundsRyan Conat (New London, WI/New London) is ranked No. 7 at 174 pounds while Dustin Wonziak is No. 5 at 197 pounds.
