MINNEAPOLIS, MN  (UWSP)  -  UW-Stevens Point junior forward Kyle Heck  (Plover, WI/SPASH) garnered his second straight First Team All-Northern Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCHA) honors and freshman defenseman Alex Brooks (Grand Rapids, MI) was named an Honorable Mention All-NCHA honoree, the league office announced Thursday.

Full Release

Heck earns First Team All-NCHA honors, Brooks Honorable Mention, All-Rookie honoree

Heck appeared in 25 games so far this season for the No. 15 ranked and No. 3 seeded Pointers. He tallied 20 points including 12 goals and eight assists a year after leading the league in scoring a year ago. His 20-goal season in 2012 was the first by a Pointer since 2001.

Heck's recognition as a first team honoree marks the first UWSP individual to earn back-to-back first team honors since the 1998-99 seasons when Ben Gorewich accomplished the feat.

Brooks burst on the season for the Pointers and made an immediate impact in his first season. The freshman played in all 25 games, recording 14 points including 10 assists, a team-best for a defenseman. Brooks was also +13 on the season, tied for fifth-best on the squad.

The Pointers host UW-River Falls on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16 at K.B. Willett Arena in the final NCHA Peters Cup quarterfinal. Action both nights gets underway at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the University Information & Ticket Office (715-346-4100) in advance of the game or at the door.
