DNR holds panfish meeting in Stevens Point Tuesday night

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - You can give state fishery managers your input on the state of panfishing in Wisconsin Tuesday night in Stevens Point.

The first of 28 public meetings on the current state of panfishing starts in Stevens Point at Ben Franklin Junior High. DNR fisheries biologist Tom Meronek says this is a way for the DNR to gather input from those affected by the fishing. “Going to the meeting will be helpful for folks because I am going to be presenting local panfish information as well."

Anglers will be asked to fill out a short survey and listen to a presentation before officials open the floor for comments. Meronek says they'd like honest opinions. "Ome prepared to give your true feelings as to what's going on." He say the DNR won't be making any policy decisions at these meetings, but would like to know how anglers feel.

The DNR says panfish are the most commonly caught fish in the state, with over 57 million panfish caught last year. Just under half of those were kept according to a recent survey.

Tuesday night's meeting starts at 6:30.
