WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WSAU) -- A Wood County man on extended supervision after serving time for a sex crime is back in jail. 25-year-old Antonio Chavez is now accused of cutting off the ankle bracelet holding his GPS monitoring device. The device notified the Department of Corrections that the strap had been tampered with, meaning it was probably removed.
Court documents say Chavez left a note behind, saying he had to leave the state to deal with a life or death situation. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and Chavez is now in the Wood County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond. He will be back in court to enter a plea January 7th.
Chavez served nearly five years for three counts of 2nd degree sexual assault of a child, and just got out of prison in late August.
