IRON RIVER, MI (WXPR) -- Northstar Health System and Aspirus Health System have announced an affiliation agreement.
Based in Iron River, Michigan, Northstar includes a 25 bed critical access hospital with clinics in Iron River, Marenisco and Crystal Falls. They also have home health and hospice services. Northstar has 370 employees. Aspirus is based in Wausau. The transaction is expected to be done in late January.
Connie Koutouzos, Northstar Chief Executive Officer says the juncture will help them do more. "This helps to provide economies of scale, it helps to provide us with resources that we normally leverage both for our employees and our patients. There are countless opportunities for both our employees and the types of patient services that we will have the ability to do."
Aspirus Senior Vice President Rick Nevers says Northstar helps them build their brand in the Upper Peninsula. "Their culture we found to be extremely compatible with the Aspirus culture. Their geographic location was important to us as we continue to look for growth opportunities in the U.P."
Aspirus has offered to retain the positions of all staff members at their current pay and benefits rates. Northstar is Aspirus’ fourth hospital partner in Upper Michigan, including hospitals in Ontonagon, Laurium, and Ironwood.
