RHINELANDER, Wis. (WSAU) -- A Rhinelander elementary school is closed today after a third of the students called in sick.
School district officials closed Pelican Elementary today on a recommendation from the Oneida County Health department. Officials haven't determined what exactly the kids have, but the symptoms are upper respiratory and gastrointestinal. They say closing the school is important to stop the spread of whatever is causing the illness and to break the link to the community as well.
The Health Department reminds parents to keep sick kids at home until at least 48 hours after their symptoms go away. They should also be getting plenty of fluids and sleep. You should also make sure everyone is washing their hands frequently.
School officials will be reopening Pelican on Monday.
