WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - A group of area workers and labor activists turned out in Wausau yesterday for a day-long rally for the rights of minimum wage workers.

Organizer Melissa Engles-Lewis says they spent the day moving the rally all around Wausau but ended the day outside of Wendy's in Rib Mountain. "We've been a lot of different places today but we ended here because we had so many workers interested in the strike."

The strike is part of a series of protests across the country aiming to improve the wages of fast food workers. Engles-Lewis says they're they're fighting for living wages. "People that are working those 7.25 an hour jobs cannot pay their bills and support their families on those wages."

Engles-Lewis says she was happy with the turnout. "I'm very encouraged that so many people are out today and that we have so much support. I'm hoping that this will pick up, and I think we'll definitely be back."

Workers at Hardee’s, Wendy’s, Radio Shack and other stores have pledged their support in the rally along with a number of central Wisconsin labor groups.
