BENTONVILLE, AK (WTVB) - Walmart says it's committed to buying $50-billion more in American-made and grown products over the next decade and is now meeting in Orlando to make it happen. U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker told about 15-hundred suppliers to the retail giant that she's heard the same story over and over again from manufacturers, that they’ve come through some tough years but now they’re poised to compete, to drive innovation and create good jobs once again.
Walmart suppliers say rising shipping costs from China combined with domestic tax incentives and a skilled workforce at home are making "Made in the U.S.A." a profitable option. A challenge for suppliers is to meet Walmart’s huge demand for products as the retailer operates in cities all around the world.
