WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) Wausau city leaders will hire a consulting firm to come up with a master plan for Thomas Street. The city has considered widening the roadway for more than a decade, and recently has been buying up more property along the road.
Bids opened yesterday range between $79,000 and $51,000. The city council will choose a consultant by the end of the month. A new plan for widening the road will be expected in January.
Costs for widening the road could top $15-million. The city lost access to federal funding for the project earlier this year because it didn't follow the rules for notifying property owners about appealing the purchase price for their land and for offering relocation assistance. The city isn't sure how it will make up for the loss of that funding.
