FRANKLIN, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) Jim Lemon of Madison is the first-round leader at the Wisconsin State Open golf tournament in Franklin. The 35-year-old Lemon, who played for a decade on the Canadian Tour, shot a five-under-par 67 yesterday at Tuckaway Country Club.
He has a one-stroke lead over two-time State Open champion Dan Woltman, 2012 State Amateur champ Brady Strangstalien of Madison, Austin Gaugert of Lake Geneva, and State Golf Association Hall-of-Famers Eddie Terasa and Jim Schuman.
Woltman, of Beaver Dam, played his first competitive round since April sixth when he had wrist surgery. The Open’s defending champion, Andrew Steinhofer of Madison, is among nine players who are four strokes off the pace at 71.
