CVS requiring ID to buy nail polish remover

UNDATED (WSAU) - Along with certain prescription drugs, a national pharmacy chain is requiring an ID to buy a common product from the health and beauty aisle.

CVS Pharmacies have a new policy requiring customers to show their ID to purchase nail polish remover. That’s because nail polish remover commonly contains a chemical called acetone, and acetone is a key ingredient needed to make methamphetamines.

The pharmacy chain issued a statement saying, “Because acetone is an ingredient used in the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine, we recently implemented a policy that a valid ID must be presented to purchase acetone-containing products such as nail polish remover. Our policy also limits the sale of these products in conjunction with other methamphetamine precursors and is based on various regulations requiring retailers to record sales of acetone.“The store policy will soon be implemented nationwide.
