MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Federal Prosecutors in Milwaukee are suing a Kentucky-based pharmaceuticals company for allegedly illegally dispensing addictive narcotics.
The suit against PharMerica Corp., based in Louisville, Kentucky, comes from a 2009 report from a pharmacists who claims she witnessed the illegal practices.
The whistleblower says when she brought it up with bosses, they ignored her – so she brought it to the Drug Enforcement Agency.
The lawsuit accuses the company of not using a doctor’s signature to fill prescriptions, investigators say there were many instances where there was no signature at all.
PharMerica provides pharmaceutical services to long-term facilities across the nation, about 40 million prescriptions were filled between 2007 and 2009.
