GREEN BAY, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) Another starter has gone down for the Green Bay Packers. Coach Mike McCarthy said today that receiver Jordy Nelson would miss the rest of Training Camp, after a previous knee injury re-surfaced.
Nelson had knee problems last season – most recently in early December, when he sprained a knee against Minnesota. McCarthy said he optimistic that Nelson would be ready for the Packers’ regular season opener on September 8th at San Francisco.
Also, the coach said he was waiting for the results of a second opinion on the knee that left tackle Bryan Bulaga injured on Saturday night. Reports have said he’ll be out for the season, but McCarthy says Bulaga is hoping to play at some point – and nothing is finalized yet.
Also, receiver Randall Cobb left this morning’s practice with a bruised bicep. Defensive end Johnny Jolly left with cramps. Running back Alex Green went out with an injured knee. First-round defensive end Datone Jones missed practice today due to illness.
McCarthy said Bulaga’s injury will give rookie David Bahktiari a chance to play at the left tackle spot. That’s where he practiced today with the Number-One offense. Right tackle Marshall Newhouse stayed at that spot.
McCarthy also said today that he brought in veteran quarterback Vince Young to create more competition for the backup signal-calling spot.
