WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAU) - A Wisconsin Rapids police officer is himself in jail pending the serious charges. Lieutenant Steven D. Lowe is being held in the Wood County jail on a twenty thousand dollar cash bond.

Charges of child enticement, child exploitation, and using a computer to facilitate a sex crime are expected to be filed against Lowe as early as today.

Police Chief Kurt Heuer was placed on paid administrative leave from the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department earlier today. At 3:25 p.m., Heuer announced that Lieutenant Lowe has resigned from the department.

The case is being investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation. Heuer says they cannot comment on the investigation since it is still an active investigation. Department of Justice officials have also declined comment on the case for the same reason. Spokesperson Dana Brueck says more information will be released if and when any charges are formally filed.

The case is being handled by a judge and special prosecutor from Sauk County.
