New judge assigned to Bergman sexual assault case

NEILLSVILLE, WI (WSAU) -  A new judge has been assigned for the former Thorp assistant track coach accused of having sexual relations with a 17-year-old girl on the team. Wood County judge Todd Wolf was assigned the Clark County case involving 43-year-old Scott Bergman. Investigators found nude and partially nude pictures of the student on Bergman’s cellphone, and several text messages indicating they had a relationship. The girl also had a diary detailing their encounters.

Charges against Bergman include felony sexual assault of a student by school staff, two misdemeanor counts of having sex with a minor over 16, possession of child pornography, and bail jumping.

Bergman’s arraignment hearing will still be heard May 1st by Judge Jon Counsell. Judge Wolf will take over the case after that hearing.
